Q: What’s the difference between a 95 f-150 lightning motor and the normal 351?
What makes the lightning 351 and the normal 351? What are the differences between the vin motor codes W, G, H, R? Is it that the heads are different stock or is it supercharged or what? I have a 96 F-150 with the FI straight 6 and am thinking of swapping in the lightning motor. I would really appreciate an answer. Thanks so much!

A: The real draw of the 1995 Ford F150 SVT Lightning was the power under its hood. A fuel-injected 5.8 liter Windsor V8 roared out a whopping 240 horsepower and 340 ft/lbf of torque. Aluminum played a key role in the 95 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning’s quirky design, between the engine’s hyperecteutic pistons and the aluminum driveshaft of its automatic transmission.

A 351 in³ (5.8 L) Windsor V8 producing 240 hp (179 kW) and 340 ft·lbf (461 N·m) of torque replaced the standard F-150 engine. The engine was based on an existing block, but Ford engineers fitted it with high flow rate “GT40″ heads and used hypereutectic pistons to increase response, output and durability.

Q: How do you reset the check engine light on a F-150?
I periodically get maintenence done on my 2003 F-150 at Lube-Stop. When they run the fuel injector cleaner through it, sometimes the check engine light comes on after a couple of days. They have to re-set it somewhere under the hood. Can anyone tell me where it is located?

A: remove fuse to ecm or remove a battery cable

Q: Changing burned out map light bulbs in a F-150 truck with sunroof?
I have a 2006 F-150 truck with sunroof. One of my map light bulbs burned out so I need to replace it. I have already looked in my owner’s manual and also in the Hayne’s manual but they don’t show my light configuration. I tried prying out the light assembly but I don’t want to break the assembly. Am I on the right track and need to pry harder or is there a special trick to it?

A: you should be able to pull manually just apply even pressure. If any doubts go to any body shop and ask how to remove, most will help you

Q: what is the 2″ “tube-like” protrusion sticking out from the bottom of my F-150 tailgate?
I just replaced the tail-gate on my 2006 F-150 and noticed that the original one has a “screw in” piece that resembles a piece of 3/8″ tubing. It extends into the box of the truck when the tailgate is installed.

A: I think those are to align the tailgate for easy installation.

Q: In full detail, what modifications to an F-150 V8 Triton could I do to make it more powerful, and faster?
I would like the full thing. With the exception of removing stuff from the interior of the truck, what parts should I get to transform the F-150 into a powerhouse of a truck?
This is just to get an idea. I seriously do want to have that truck ramped up in power. No cheap way. I want EVERYTHING that can be done to it!

A: I’m gonna be straight with you. This IS going to be a slightly up hill battle. Now, there are 2 approches. The cheap way and the NOT cheap way.

Personally I’d go the cheap way since it’s just a truck.

CHEAP WAY: Get an Intake, Headers and Exhaust System and a 150 shot of Nitrous from a GOOD company like Zex or Nitrous Express. This should make it PLENTY ballsy.

NOT CHEAP WAY: As above but without the Nitrous and using a Supercharger or a Turbo Setup instead. MUCH more expensive but at least the power is on all the time.

That is about all I can recommend. I really doubt you’re gonna want to spend the cash to rip apart the engine and rebuild it for SERIOUS power. Even if you did you’d still be getting raped by the guys in the Turbo Diesel trucks who just have bolt on parts and a boost controller and a Tune. Good luck.

Would I have to get the computer pogramed, for the computer to release equal press. to each side? would it really matter if I put 3” or stay with the stock 2.5′ exhaust?

A: If the car is stock, change the muffler.

If it has some other mods, go with a cat-back. You will need tuning to recooperate low end power, any computer programmer (ex. Superchips) will do this, as they change timming.

If the truck is supercharged or some other major mod, go with true duals. You will need a custom tune, like Sniper Tuning.

Q: What brush guard can I put on my 04 F-150 that will allow me to keep my towhooks?
I want to put a brush guard on my truck and not have to sacrifice my tow hooks. It’s an 04 F-150 xlt 4×4

Q: how can i find how-to instructions for installing automatic window and door kits for 2005 F-150?
I recently purchased the automatic door and window kits for my 2005 F-150 and was wanting to do it myself but the instructions are way too vague for me to understand. Is there a way to find instructions for this project, and if not what kind of auto shops would i take my vehicle to, so i can have them install the kits for me?

A: it isn;;t cheap to convert manual winders to electric,,ya have to remove the mecanicals and put the motors in and run the wireing and …im tired typing

The gas mileage on my mother’s 2004 F-150 (Lariat) is worst than having an old school Chevelle with an exhaust leak doing 120 mph on a 6 hour strecth of road. So I wanted to get an Hypertech or some other company’s programmer to improve the gas mileage.

The truck has a 5.4 Triton V-8 in it.

A: Most programmers are made to increase the power of your engine, with more power comes more fuel consumption. an most programmers will require the use of premium fuel to avoid detonation becasue the timing is advanced. this will just cost you more money in the long run. Your best bet is to do a basic tune up, clean air filter and ensure the tire inflation is spot on at all times.

Q: How much money to get a ‘87-’91 F-150 running strong?
I like the 87-91 F-150 but I doubt I can find one that will run for long.
How much to get one of those trucks running again? Just a ballpark range I understand theres alot of variables as far whats wrong with the truck.
Also I’m not sure if I want the I6 or the 5.0. suggestions on which engine would be greatly appreciated

Q: i have a 2001 f-150 and im wondering if theres a front chrome bumper i can purchase besides the factory one?
if your familiar with fords im sure you know the bumper that comes on the truck and it has the black plastic on the top and bottom!so my question is,i would like to buy a chrome bumper that’s longer so i can due away with the plastic on the top and bottom!does that make sense?could maybe a bumper for a newer model F-150 fit on my truck?

A: You could get the lightning style front bumper. Or the Harley Davidson style.

Or you can go with the aftermarket cobra style.

Q: Where to run aftermarket speaker wire in 2005 F-150 for aftermarket speakers?
My 2005 F-150 has an actually elecrical plug between the front doors and the firewall,No open rubber boot like the rear doors. How and where can I run my aftermarket speaker wire for my new speakers in the front doors?

A: you can’t unless you put holes in the door and the a pillar as their is no other way in … either that or use the smaller wires to feed it already in the connector.

You could do like some stereo shops that do very high dollar stelth equipment installs and run it thru the connector those extra wires but it requires a connector kit from the local Ford dealer and way too much time and patience
