Q: How do I clear a check engine light on 2000 Hyundai elantra?
My girlfriend has a 2000 hyundai elantra with a check engine light on and whats me to check under the hood. I told her on the phone, she might have to take the car to the dealer and have them see whats wrong. She had a oil change not to long ago at a Merchants tire shop.
A: You should change the oxygen sensor, that is most likely your problem. The guy above is stupid it takes $15 per sensor, with comections. One wrench and 10 minutes and it will be fixed. Don’t waist your money at a shop for this one.
Q: What would be the cost of replacing the hood and bumper in a Hyundai Elantra?
Got involved in a car accident. Basically, everything in front of the radiator (not including the radiator) as well as the hood should be replaced. That includes the bumper, bumper reinforcement, radiator support, etc. Surprisingly, the lights are not broken. I would like to know how much the whole replacement may cost me. The car is a Hyundai Elantra, 2002, GLS. Thanks.
A: To replace the hood, front bumper assembly, grille, core support etc…is an easy $3000 if not more.
Q: Does Hyundai cover timing belt replacement under its warranty as I’m the original owner of a 2003 Elantra?
I have a 2003 Hyundai Elantra GT with about 63000 miles driven. I was wondering if the timing belt needs to be changed even though I don’t drive it hard. If so, does Hyundai cover timing belt replacement under the warranty as I’m the original owner of the car. Also, I bought this car after graduation in TX but currently live in CA. Thanks.
A: Yes you need to replace it. It connects your camshafts to your crank shaft. If your belt breaks or stretches your valves can hit the pistons and destroy your engine if its an interference engine. If its not an interference engine your car just wont run. Those repairs wont be covered by warranty because you didn’t follow the maintenance schedule so the damage is your fault.
Warranty covers manufacturing and assembly defects not maintenance.
Q: What are your thoughts on a 2007 Hyundai Elantra Limited?
I am looking to buy a new car. Comparing the Elantra to the Civic, Sentra, Corolla and others, I am finding that the Elantra gives you the most for your money and has great warranty. What do you guys think about Hyundai?
A: First off, I am the owner of an 07 Elantra GLS, one step “down” from the Limited, but I have most of the same options because the dealer installs them based on customer preference. We traded in our 02 Elantra GLS for it. Our car is a gem. It’s nicer on the outside, and the inside is much, much better than our old one.
Reliability? Our ‘02 never gave us a problem except once, and it was completely covered under the warranty. We traded it in with 92,0000 miles on it.
Hyundai “haters” are ignorant, and they must enjoy throwing their money away. Hyundai builds good cars for much cheaper than Honda and Toyota but stay out of the limelight. The Elantra is a bigger car than the Civic AND the Corolla. I have two growing children and they have plenty of room in the back.
We bought our car brand new, put 2K down and financed 11,300, which means that my brand new car I bought for about $600 more than my 02. Try getting a Civic with all those options for anywhere near that price.
You’d do well to buy a Hyundai.
Q: Is a 2001 Hyundai Elantra a good car to buy?
I found a 2001 Hyundai Elantra hatchback for sale for $6,000. It looks like it’s in good condition. However, what are some stats for it? Is it reliable? Does it get good gas mileage?
A: Well…. My Elantra outlasted my friend’s Civic and his brother’s Camry had transmission problems the first day he got it so yes it’s possible to outlast Honda’s and Toyota’s regardless how much people hype them up. Funny how my 7 yr old Elantra hasn’t “fell apart” yet after 135,000 miles. Little thing called routine maintenance goes along way.
$6000 sounds a bit much but how many miles does it have? Sounds like it has low miles. Small cars are in demand now because of high gas prices and Hyundai resell values are getting better so this price isn’t far off.
My 01 Elantra gets about 33-36 mpg highway depending on how fast I’m going.
The Elantra is Edmund’s best used car pick for 5 yrs so I would say it would be a decent used car. http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/bestbet/articles/index.html
Q: How much is it to get air conditioning for my 2008 Hyundai Elantra?
My parents decided to buy my 2008 Hyundai Elantra basic, which is cool, becuase they got me a car. But it is getting really hot outside, and my car is black- but i have no AC! Does anyone kno where I can kind an air conditioner kit for my car, and how much it would cost?
I would greatly appreciate your help
A: only kit for a car that new would be dealer installed a/c kit and they are not cheap.
only other option would be to find a wrecked one in the same year range and rip everything out of it.
you’d need all kinds, condensor, evaporator w/underdash boxes, all a/c lines, misc. bolts, brackets, possibly wiring harnesses if the car isnt pre-wired either, a/c compressor w/engine bracket, belt, possibly crank pulley, compressor oil, and freon. I think I may have left something out but you get the idea.
its a huge pain in the butt and even if you got all the parts together on the cheap…and I mean EVERYTHING…it sounds like you have no clue how to install it yourself and a shop would charge you an arm and a leg to do it since they’d have to pull out the entire dash to hang the underdash components.

Q: Where would the cruise control be located on a 2001 Hyundai Elantra GLS?
Just recently purchased a 2001 Hyundai Elantra and was curious if anyone could answer the question of how can I know if it has cruise control. It didn’t come with a manual.
A: cruise control on that model should be on the right side of the steering, just forward of the windshield wiper functiom. The lever ought to a little lower than it and just behind the steering wheel.
Q: Might buy a Hyundai Elantra that had the timing belt broken. What does it need?
Might trade a trailer that I have for a Hyundai Elantra that had the timing belt broken. Are the valves definitely smashed? What other work do I need to do other than installing a new belt? How do I get the timing right? Thanks
1998 Elantra with the 2.0Liter
A: As for the poster with the ‘92 Elantra…that was the old Hyundai.
To the OP…what year Elantra are we talking about? If it’s newer than 2000 and you have the money to fix it, I would go for it. However some advice for you.
Hyundai engines are interference engines. When that belt broke, I would bet you the pistons collided with the stationary valves. You’ll need to take the head off to make sure but I’m 99.9% positive that’s the case. Easily you’ll need new valves, perhaps more.
Good luck.
Q: What are your thoughts on a 2005 Hyundai Elantra?
I am a college student, and my car recently got totaled in a hit-n-run accident. I am in desperate need to another car. I have about $6,000 to spend and would like a newer car (my previous car was a 2000). I was looking at a used 2005 Hyundai Elantra. I don’t know much about Hyundai’s, but I hear they are now made better. Does anybody have any advice for me? Or any other car suggestions?
A: It sounds just right for someone in your situation… Hyundais are really reliable, unlike the Hyundais of yesteryear… they have bad resale value for now… but your 2005 Hyundai will not disappoint.
And don’t listen to that Donnie Iris idiot, an old muscle car will give you nothing but headaches, people only buy them and spent oodles on parts and repairs just to feel young again!
Q: Does the Hyundai Elantra 2009 use a timing belt or chain?
I’ve considered other cars but have set my sights on the Hyundai Elantra 2009 car since it fits my budget compared to the Corolla and the Civic. I’ve tried looking up the answer but could not find it. Does anyone know if it uses a timing belt or a timing chain? Would you happen to know if it is expensive to maintain a Hyundai compared to Honda and Toyota? If the maintenance cost is too high it might make me reconsider and shell out the extra 3-5k for the Corolla/Civic. Thanks in advance!
A: its a timing belt and should be changed at 90k miles.
Q: Can I paint or replace the side molding on my 2006 Hyundai Elantra Hatchback?
I bought a 2006 Hyundai Elantra Hatchback. I love the car, however I hate the black rubber side molding that’s meant to protect the doors. Is it possible to paint the molding the color of the car or replace the rubber molding with fiberglass molding that could be painted to match the car?
I really just hate those black lines going down the side of my white car.
A: If they are “textured” moldings they can be painted BUT they will peel over time due to the texture. If they are smooth moldings they can be painted by a collision repair facility but it can cost as much as $40.00 – $50.00 per molding. They must be removed from the vehicle, cleaned, prepped, based and cleared, then the tape that holds them on must be cleaned off and new double sided tape applied. A lot depends on the area you live and the labor rates.
If you want it done right so they will match the color or your vehicle and not peel you will need to take it to a repair facility and get it done. If you use spray paint they will not match and they WILL peel and look worse than straight black as they are now.
Hope this helps.
Q: how do you remove and install aftermarket radio in a 02 hyundai elantra?
I am trying to intall my alpine radio in my friends 02 hyundai elantra. Never worked on this car before so wondered if anyone knew how to remove the radio or has a link to instructions with photos. I know what parts i need just need the help on removing radio from the dash thanks.
A: above the gouge cluster there are 2 phillips screws, remove them.
Remove the ashtray, there are 2 more phillips screws were, remove them. Now, I find it easier to move the shifter to L (if you have a manual trans, shift it to any gear in the bottom- 2, 4, R) and set your e-brake. You can now remove the dash trim, Pull gently at the bottom where the ashtray was, and it will start to unclip. Now using somthing you can pry between the trim and dash with, work your way around the trip until its completely unclipped. You must now disconnect all the electrical connectors that plug into the dash- dimmer, clock, hazard switch, airbag light, trip comp/TCS defeat if you have them. Than set the trim aside. There are six screws that hold the radio to the dash, remove them and slide out the radio
Q: What would be a good system for my 2001 Hyundai Elantra GLS?
I want to replace my system in my 2001 Hyundai Elantra GLS and I don’t want to spend to much money but i want all new speakers and a new head unit. Can anyone give me some help please?
A: Find out what size your factory speakers are. Then shop for a good head unit. Buy the unit first, because you could end up with ohmage problems by buying the speakers first. A decent 45w x4 head unit will do wonders to improve the sound in your car. 4 new speakers will make it scream and a solid amp/sub combo will set it off. You don’t need much more than a 250 watt amp to really make the bass puond. JL Audio has a 250/1 mono amp and a 10 inch sub will really sound clean in a trunk. If you’re not ready for the sub, make sure the speakers inside the car have an RMS rating of more than the output of the deck. After that, its all what looks good and sounds good to you. Have fun!!
Q: What transmission fits an 2001 hyundai elantra?
I want to know what year transmissions fit a 2001 manual transmission hyundai elantra?
A: Seems like 01’s and 02’s only.
A good starting point to look at is this site http://car-part.com/index.htm
Good Luck.
