Q: How do you install windows in a jeep wrangler hardtop?
I have a 1997 jeep wrangler. I purchased a hardtop that needs windows installed in it. I have purchased used windows. How do you install the windows in this hardtop?
A: Short answer: I recommend taking it to an auto glass shop or a Jeep dealership. If you have the glass already, the installation should be fairly inexpensive.
The procedure is covered in detail in the factory service manual (a very good investment for any do-it-yourself Jeep owner, and not too expensive on ebay). Glass installation is not trivial. I’ll try to condense the instructions here:
1. Trim the urethane from the opening, leaving a 3mm level base. Place glass in the opening and make sure it fits and seats against the level urethane. Make alignment marks with a grease pencil
2. Remove the glass to a workbench, lay flat, inside-up.
3. Clean the glass with ammonia-based glass cleaner, then clean outer edge of glass with naphtha
4. Apply molding to perimeter of glass with butt-weld in the molding at the bottom center of the glass.
5. Apply “glass prep” adhesion promotor 1″ wide around perimeter of glass, wipe with lint-free cloth until no streaks.
6. Apply “glass primer” 1″ wide around perimeter of glass. Allow 3 minutes or more drying time
7. Apply “pinchweld” primer 3/4″ wide around the quarter glass fence (on the hard top). Allow 3 minutes or more drying time
8. Apply a 0.4″ diameter bead of urethane to the center of the quarter glass fence surface area. (I quoted this instruction directly). Go to step 9 immediately – you only 10-15 minutes before the urethane starts to cure.
9. Align the glass with the grease pencil marks and push inward “until the reveal molding is seated on the hardtop.” Don’t push so hard that too much adhesive squeezes out.
10. Open windows and liftgate while urethane cures to avoid pressure buildup. Apply 2″ masking tape strips every 10″. After urethane cures, remove tape strips and water-test.
Q: How do I prevent rust on my jeep wrangler’s undercarriage?
I need a product or something to use that will help prevent rust for under my jeep. I been off-roading and then washing the mud off, after I go. Is there anything that will help prevent rust that is safe for using on this jeep wrangler?
A: I use Heculiner – bed liner and bed liner coating for my truck bed protection.
My dad bought me the complete kit of it which includes gallon of the protective coating, a pair of rollers and a handle, an abrasive pad, a 1- or 2-inch brush, plus a handy instruction manual… He caught the kit on sale from The Parts Bin.
Q: Will a Jeep Wrangler front seat fit into a 1997 Jeep Cherokee?
I have a 1997 Jeep Cherokee with a broken driver’s side front seat. I cannot find a replacement. What I do find is plenty of Jeep Wrangler replacement seats for the same year. Will the Wrangler seat fit my 1997 Jeep Cherokee?
A: I doubt it. The wrangler seats are different if i remember correctly. The Cherokee is more a people person car while the wrangler is supposed to be for off roading. I think the wrangler seat is different.
If all else fails just walk into the repair dept. at the jeep Chrysler dealer and ask…

Q: How well does an 88 4.2 Jeep Wrangler engine fit into a 95 wrangler, any extra parts or accessories needed?
The engine i want to put in is a 4.2 in line six from a 1988 Jeep Wrangler, i am needing to replace a 2.5 four cylinder for a 1995 Jeep Wrangler, what complications could i come upon with switching these engines out?
A: This isn’t a very common swap, going to a 4.0L is better. However if you already have the 4.2L you’ll need the tranny, wiring harness, computer, sending unit, exhaust head pipe, motor mounts and possibly gears for your axles depending on what you are doing with the jeep. The 2.5L ran 4.11 gears and the two straight sixes ran somewhere in the 3s. The carbureted motor doesn’t get great gas mileage. You don’t want the Puegot BA10 that tranny that came in the ‘88. The Aisin AX-15 is much better however in ‘92 or ‘93 the pilot diameter size changed and the reverse gear was beefed up but you’ll need a new pilot bearing to run the newer tranny as well as an external slave cylinder. Check out a few jeep forums, some guys do this swap and I’ve seen a few write-ups about it.
Q: What is wrong with my jeep wrangler heater?
I have a 97 jeep wrangler and when i turn the heater on, it makes a loud vibrating sound. Is this because the heater blower motor is going out? Where can i get an ac system for my jeep too.
A: That sounds like what it is. I had the same thing with my Jeep Cherokee. That can be picked up at your local junkyard or on ebay for $20 bucks or less. It will be a couple bolts and a plug. After that it’s smooth sailing! A/C systems are a little harder… You can go to a junk yard and get a used one out of a wrecked wrangler, that is your cheapest bet, all the way to buying the aftermarket version from Jeep and having it installed. That will cost you 1200 to 1500 dollars. I priced out getting used parts for a Chevy aveo and it would have been about $400 for the parts. make sure to buy new hoses regardless as these can go bad over time. Good luck and keep on Jeepin!

Q: How much does it cost to replace a head gasket on a jeep wrangler?
1993 Jeep Wrangler YJ 2.5l 4 cyl 5 speed. I am looking into buying this guy’s wrangler but he says it has a coolant leak at the head gasket. Should i not buy this or should i fix it, if i fix it, around how much would a shop charge me.
A: Just to replace the head gasket, change the oil and filter and refill with coolant should be between $525.00 and $700.00 depending on where you take it.
If you do it yourself, you can do it for around $200.00 or so.
I would suggest getting the head reworked while it’s off though. This could run another $250.00 or so.
Hope this helps and good luck
Q: What size tires for a 1997 jeep wrangler tj?
I have a 1997 Jeep Wrangler TJ and it is a 2.5liter, 4 cylinder and my father and i are debating on whether we should get a 4in. or 2.5in. We are also debating on whether we should do 31, 32, or 33 inch tires. We have heard that 33 inch tires on a 4 cylinder will decrease the power in the jeep and it is not a good idea. What is your suggestion?
by the way what is your opinion about body lifts?
A: 4 inch lift one inch coil spacers 35 inch swampers four cylinger 5 speed 4.88 gears locked in the front welded in the rear = absolutly no power
Q: Is it possible to convert a Jeep Wrangler Soft top into a Hard top?
I have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler and this morning I was putting the soft top back on and it completely ripped in the center at the seam. It was the factory top so it was bound to happen. I am unable to attache the windows because dry rot has ruined the velcro and zipper seams. Is it possible to convert it to a soft top? If so, is it difficult and would I have to put holes in my Jeep?
A: yes…
call your local jeep dealer and get price on hardshell cover and also check out the 4×4 mags and local 4×4 shops they sell aftermarket versions too..
Q: How do I restore my Jeep Wrangler fender flares to their original black finish?
It is a 2002 Jeep Wrangler X and they have faded to a gray color.
A: You might have wax build up from car washes or from waxing them. Mothers makes a product called Back To Black and Duragloss makes a product called Wax Eraser. Try them .
Q: How many miles per gallon should my 1997 Jeep Wrangler Sahara get?
I have a 1997 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4.0 with a manual tranny. I am getting about 14 mpg in town. I drive decently slow and never gas it. I am reading that they should be getting 17 in town. Is there anything I could do to increase my mpg (pcv valve, gas filter, etc) I just gave it a tune up.
A: edmunds.com doesnt say but the reviews say somewhere between 13-16 mpg

Q: What is the largest engine that will fit in a 1995 Jeep Wrangler?
I have a ‘95 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 and im thinking about a swap whats the biggest engine that will fit and line up?
A: 4wd.com makes conversion kits to put a chevy 350 in your jeep. beware though, because its too much torque for stock axles and transmissions.
Q: How difficult is it to remove the rear seat on a Jeep Wrangler?
I am getting a 2006 Jeep Wrangler Sport and just wondering if it will be easy to take the back seat in and out. Also if you have one is there anything I should know?
A: Piece of cake. The rear seat mount changed in 2003. The seat tips forward and the spring loaded mounts detach, then you simply lift the seat out. Its actually harder to put the seat back in – the trick is push the seat forward after you’ve lined up the mounts and brought the seat back to the upright position.
Q: Where to get inexpensive electronic key for 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
I recently bought a used Jeep Wrangler and it unfortunately only came with one key and the teeth are somewhat worn so it can be difficult to remove. I have heard there is are cheaper places (other than the dealer) to get new electronic keys. Does anyone know of such a place? I’m afraid they key may get worn to the point where I can’t even use it and I would like to have one or two backups.
A: If you have an “electric” chipped key, you will need 2 of the original ones in order to add a 3rd key. It involves the programming. You need to insert the 2 correct ones before programming the 3rd. You can get chipped and unchipped keys from 4wd.com. If you only have one chipped key, you need to go to a dealer, and that’s expensive.
Look up 4wd and call them. They are Jeep nutz and they are very helpful.
Q: Where can I find a Jeep Wrangler window?
I need a rear window for a soft top,1998 Jeep Wrangler. I don’t care if it’s used and a little beat up because someone cut mine open. I don’t have a lot of money to spend.
A: try a local junk/salvage yard
